Yule is a northern European holiday/event that was traditionally celebrated in the December-January time frame. The meaning I've settled upon for myself is that it marks the Winter Solstice when the tilt of the earth makes it appear that the sun has started its six-month journey back towards the north pole and we start moving into warm weather up here and leaving you and your neighbors looking forward to colder weather down there. But, you won't find lots of people who agree with me. Some will tell you that Yule and Christmas are the same, but I don't think so. But, I don't want to get pulled into a long conversation about what Yule really is, so I'll leave it at that. Wikipedia has a lot of information on the subject.
