Updates at GeorgiaDragRacing.com

Over the weekend, I finally made the time to update GeorgiaDragRacing.com and add something that has been bothering me for some time.

Bogan Renfroe continues as Top Sponsor

First on the list was thanking Bogan Renfroe for sponsoring GeorgiaDragRacing.com for the seventh year in a row.

My brother, David Dilbeck, is the real force behind his Georgia Drag Racing site. It was his passion and life-long interest in drag racing that led me to start the site for him almost a decade ago.

It is unfortunate that he developed physical problems that make it impossible for him to work without constant pain, and he can no longer go to the drag racing events that are so important to him.

Still, we do what we can to help others learn more about drag racing history in Georgia and even some updates for what’s happening currently.

Bogan Renfroe’s support has made it possible to continue building this site and presenting information to many thousands of readers every year.

Thank you, Bogan, for all your support. We could not have done it without you.

If you’re in Georgia in the area north of Atlanta and need mining and grading help, you should contact Bogan. His phone number is 770-457-2655.

Georgia Drag Racing Photos List

Over the last seven years, David has found hundreds of rare photos showing parts of the history of drag racing in Georgia. He took some of them, and others were submitted by a variety of photographers and racers who let us publish photos from their collections.

Now, we have 444 Georgia Drag Racing Photos, but until last weekend, there was no list nor index to make it easier to find them.

On Saturday afternoon, I decided the time was right to create such a list and add it to the Photo Gallery page.

After all, I had all the information stored in a database, so how long would it take to go through it, do some simple copying and pasting, and create a list that will be helpful now and in the future as we add more photos?

I could knock that out in a couple of hours, right?

It’s a good thing I didn’t know how long it would take when I first started, because it may not have been completed.

The couple of hours turned into the rest of the day, all night, and most of Sunday, with a couple of time-outs for short naps.

In this case, my stubbornness proved to be an asset. Once I started, I wasn’t going to stop until it was completed.

I don’t know if it will help you find photos that interest you, but I know that it reminded me of photos that were added years ago that I completely forgot about.

I hope there are few or no errors in that list, but if you find any, please let me know.

Decluttering the announcements

Over the last few months, as I’ve been tied up with more pressing things and David has rarely felt like working on the site, all the announcements we show on the top of every page became more and more bloated.

David and I talked it over and have dramatically decluttered the current announcements. We’re still linking to two drag racing reunions that took place last year and we’ll be updating both of them when the information for this years’ reunions becomes available.

Hopefully, we’ll be able to continue updating the site over the coming years and do our small part to help spread the word to drag racing fans in Georgia.

You can stay up to date with at least a part of Georgia Drag Racing news on David’s site, which syndicates his blog.

Don’t forget, you can see lots of new photos uploaded to the Georgia Drag Racing albums on Webshots.com.

Thanks to everyone who has contributed to the photos and information we can present on the site. We hope thousands of readers will learn more about Georgia Drag Racing in the coming years.

All the best,

JD
